EPFO starts crediting interest, check your EPF balance via website, missed call, SMS

New Delhi: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has started the process of crediting interest to provident fund (PF) accounts. It may be noted that the government has recently approved and notified an interest of 8.65 per cent for employees provident fund (EPF) for the financial year 2018-19.

The employee and the employer contribute an equal amount (12 per cent) towards savings every month and this amount can be availed upon retirement or after switching jobs. However, the EPFO has a facility of premature withdrawal with which a definitive proportion from PF balance can be withdrawn.

An individual is allowed to withdraw a partial amount from the provident fund account before the completion of maturity, except for the case of unemployment. Also, the subscribers are eligible to withdraw their PF balance in case of marriage of children, education of children, repayment of home loans, renovation of home, purchase of land, etc. There are four ways to check EPF account balance- EPFO portal, UMANG app, missed call and SMS service.
