How to recharge FASTag using the BHIM UPI app

If your vehicle does not have a FASTag, then you will have to pay twice the normal rate at toll gates across the country.

What are FASTags?

FASTag is a device that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly while the vehicle crosses the toll plaza. FASTag (RFID Tag) is affixed on the windscreen of the vehicle which enables a customer to make the toll payments directly from the account linked to FASTag.

According to National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) website, “The FASTag will offer the convenience of cashless payment along with benefits like – savings on fuel and time as the customer does not has to stop at the toll plaza.”

Banks and mobile wallets like Paytm allow you to buy and recharge FASTag. You can also recharge a FASTag using the BHIM UPI (do keep in that you cannot buy one using the app).

Here is a look at how you can recharge your FASTag using the BHIM UPI app:

Step 1: Download the BHI UPI app from Google play if you are an android phone user. If you are an iPhone user, download it from the Apple app store. Click here to know how can download BHIM UPI app:

Step 2: Open your BHIM UPI app using the ‘Passcode’ and click on ‘Send’- the first tab on the BHIM UPI’s home screen. In the ‘Send Money’ option enter the UPI virtual address of your FASTag, that is, (NTPC.vehicle number) @banksupihandle). Click on ‘Send to Self’ and proceed further.

Step 3: Now enter the amount you want to send/recharge your FASTag prepaid wallet with. The last four digits of the account number will be displayed below the same screen from which the amount will get debited.

Step 4: Once you enter the amount, you need to click on ‘Proceed’ and re-enter the ‘Passcode’ again.

Step 5: As soon as your account gets recharged, you will receive a confirmation SMS on your mobile phone.

Using BHIM UPI app, you can use multiple bank account to recharge your FASTag instantaneously.
