IRCTC foreign tourist quota: Ticket booking charges, cancellation & refund rules
New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) offers the ticket booking facility to all the foreign tourists having a valid passport. With the foreign tourist quota, all the foreign nationals including non-resident Indians (NRIs) can reserve seats on the trains operated by the Indian Railways. IRCTC levies different charges for the registration of foreign tourists on the IRCTC e-ticketing website, www.irctc.co.in. Moreover, the ticket booking and cancellation rules are different for all the international tourists.
A foreign tourist is required to pay Rs 100 for a fresh registration or mobile number updation on the IRCTC website. Further, a convenience fee of Rs 200 is charged per ticket over and above the ticket booking amount under the foreign tourist quota via IRCTC online portal. All charges are exclusive of taxes, therefore, the foreign tourists are entitled to pay the prevailing goods and services tax (GST) on the transactions.
IRCTC has the mandate to deduct 50 per cent of the ticket booking amount and the applicable cancellation charges from the foreign tourists if the ticket booking has been cancelled. However, the train ticket will be automatically cancelled and a cancellation SMS/email with details will be sent to the user on the registered mobile number/email ID, respectively, in case a berth is not allotted by Railway PRS system.
IRCTC will refund the entire fare and the convenience fee electronically to the source account used for paying the ticket booking amount if the amount has been debited from and the ticket has not been issued. According to IRCTC, there is no guarantee for the accuracy and timeliness of the refunds reaching the customers’ bank accounts as multiple channels are involved in the process of online transactions. All refund to be processed and the time limits for cancellation of tickets booked online are applicable as per extant rules set by the Indian Railways.
