WhatsApp for Android gets Dark Theme with the latest beta update

WhatsApp has finally started rolling out its latest beta update that bumps the version number to 2.20.13 and brings the much-awaited Dark Theme for users. Before our readers get too excited, they need to understand that the new update is limited for beta users as of now, which means a broader rollout for everyone is on the cards. It could be available to everyone in the coming days or weeks. Another important thing is the WhatsApp Dark Theme is available to Android users only right now, which means iPhone users will have to wait a bit more for the new feature.

To start, WhatsApp users worldwide have been waiting for this feature eagerly, and it is now out. While the leaks have been claiming that it will be called WhatsApp Dark Mode though, we now know that the instant messaging service calls it Dark Theme. Once upgraded to the latest WhatsApp beta update, users can find the new feature under WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Display > Theme.

The all-new Theme button is the option that will enable Dark Theme. Notably, the Theme offers three options, namely Light theme, Dark theme or System default. The WhatsApp Light theme is for those users who love the WhatsApp existing look and do not want to use anything else. The Dark theme is an all-new feature that enables a dark mode in the app. There’s a third Set by Battery Saver which automatically switches between the Light or Dark theme depending on Battery Saver settings.

Once Dark theme selected, WhatsApp will be turned to dark colours which use night blue colour. WABetainfo, who reported the Dark theme first, points that chat appears with dark and green bubbles while event bubbles are also dark.

It’s worth noting that if you are unable to see the Theme option under Chat Settings even after updating WhatsApp to the 2.20.13 Android beta then don’t worry. The update (and feature) is being rolled out gradually, and you will get the feature soon.
